Haga Teaching Hospital ready for the future with Cloverleaf
16-01-2009
Haga Teaching Hospital has selected Cloverleaf as its new communications server. While the Hague-based hospital on the one hand chose E.Novation’s solution because of the time savings it can realise from a technical point of view, the deciding factor was the functional aspects of Cloverleaf, which will prepare Haga Teaching Hospital for the latest developments in information supply in the healthcare sector.
During the last few months, Haga Teaching Hospital has come to the conclusion that its current communications server is insufficiently able to help it anticipate new developments and requirements in healthcare. Topical matters in the Netherlands, such as the implementation of the Citizen’s Identification Number (BSN), connection to the National Switchpoint (LSP), and the stringent requirements concerning information security (NEN7510) represent major burdens for the IT systems of healthcare institutions. Although the hospital has an advanced Hospital Information System (ZIS) in place, there are a multitude of manual interfaces with the departmental systems.
Major savings
Managing and keeping these interfaces up to date is both expensive and time-consuming. With Cloverleaf, Haga Teaching Hospital expects to realise major savings in this process. Furthermore, the current solution is predominantly technical. However, the current requirements in the healthcare industry demand communications solutions that can cope with both the technical integration and functional aspects, such as efficient data flows, support for healthcare methods and resources, information security and data interchange at the regional and national level. With functionality of this nature, Haga Teaching Hospital will be able to respond to new developments in healthcare.
Ready for the technical and operational demands of the future
In Cloverleaf, Haga Teaching Hospital has found a communications server that meets all of these functional requirements – an efficient tool that will enable the healthcare institution to manage its information interchange processes easily, flexibly and completely. Cloverleaf is a future-proof solution for configuring and managing interfaces, integration and communications between the gamut of internal and external applications and systems used in healthcare institutions. In this context, E.Novation’s activities are not limited simply to the technical communications, but also include the configuration of the underlying data flows, processes and functional content of all information exchanged via Cloverleaf.
Cloverleaf complies with and supports all of the current international communications standards for the exchange of data and images, and features a database of all the realised interfaces. Moreover, the stringent information security requirements are embedded in the system by means of automatic monitoring, alerts and logging. Each of these factors played a major role in Haga Teaching Hospital’s selection of Cloverleaf, preparing it not only for the technical, but also the operational demands of the future.
Making the difference
As a specialised supplier of communications and integration solutions for the healthcare sector, E.Novation now boasts a clientele comprising the majority of the Netherlands’ hospitals, many of which use Cloverleaf. Commercial Director Sven Walraven is naturally pleased that Haga Teaching Hospital has now also selected Cloverleaf. “It is tremendous that one of the Netherlands’ largest hospitals has placed its confidence in the knowledge and experience of E.Novation. This engagement is particularly special due to the additional, non-technical considerations. In terms of functional aspects that Haga Teaching Hospital was looking for, the combination of our solution Cloverleaf with our many years of experience can really make the difference.”
