RIS Viewer

E.Novation International has developed the Radiology Information System (RIS) Viewer as a solution for healthcare providers allowing them to view their current radiology data when a new RIS is implemented. The RIS Viewer is accessed via a web browser that allows easy access for authorised users to view the patient demographic, attendance and X- ray report details.

The primary initial design goal was to create a user-friendly viewer for the radiology data, based on data extracted from the existing Radiology Information Systems that allows users to view historical data, maintain film tracking functionality and provide an ad hoc statistical capability.

The RIS Viewer solution is web based, easy to use and offers a reliable and cost effective way to view existing information without having to retain the overhead of running and managing a legacy radiology system.

It should be noted that to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act it was necessary to provide limited editing capability to the RIS data items for name, address and date of birth. This is only available to certain key users.

Why choose the RIS Viewer?

As part of the National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT) one of the elements is to replace the current Radiology Information Systems (RIS). This forms part of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) projects currently managed by the Local Service Providers (LSP).

A number of data definitions have changed between the existing radiology systems and the new LSP systems, which, when combined with poor data quality as a result of duplicated patient registrations and incomplete data, aging hardware platforms. Besides, a decreasing level of support makes it necessary to find an alternative to data migration to the new systems or retaining the existing systems longer than necessary.

Thus, the need was borne to develop a solution that would meet the need for clinical and legal reasons to retain existing radiology data yet not to create a new system requiring significant resources, to implement and purchase.

RIS Viewer Services

Project Management

A Project Manager will be assigned to manage the delivery of the solution proposed by E.Novation International.  A project plan will be agreed with the Trust and at agreed intervals reviews will be held on progress made against the plan. Project Control Documentation will be agreed as part of the project kick-off.

Installation, Implementation & Training

An Implementation Consultant will be assigned to the project to manage the delivery, set-up and implementation of the system.Training will be provided for end-users and, where appropriate, technical and IT personnel.

The training will be provided on site including a separate session for the Crystal reporting tool. To assist in the familiarization for Trust personnel of the new RIS viewer E.Novation International would propose implementing a copy of the Trust RIS database ahead of the scheduled ‘live’ take-on to allow the users to become familiar with the new solution and also to verify the data take-on.

Data Extract

E.Novation International has considerable experience in data extraction for the current RIS systems in the healthcare market and would perform the data extracts for each system wherever possible without needing to involve the current RIS vendors.
